Sterjovski: Macedonian President of Albania, why not?

The leader of the only Macedonian party in Albania, Macedonian Alliance for European Integration, MAEI, Vasil Sterjovski for the Albanian national television MCN, when asked about the proposal of the Macedonian party to be a candidate for the future head of state, compares with the election of Dritan Abazovic for Prime Minister of Montenegro.

Vasil Sterjovski

– Why not. We recently had the case of the election of the Prime Minister of Montenegro, a Montenegrin citizen of Albanian origin who is fighting for his country, for democracy in Montenegro. Why not vote for such a candidate from the Members of the Parliament of Albania, prof. Dr. Kimet Fetahu – answered Sterjovski.

He adds that he was proposed by the IAEA and believes that it is time for an Albanian citizen belonging to the Macedonian community to come to the helm of the Albanian state.

– First, this was the wish of our party. The best candidacy that will represent us as a Macedonian community, but also the whole country, we assessed as the candidacy of Mr. Kimet Fetahu. We believe that the time has come, why not, to have an Albanian citizen at the head of the Albanian state who belongs to the Macedonian community – he said.

It also answers the question of whether this proposal was influenced by Macedonian politics.

– No. We as a party were formed in Albania, we are registered in the Basic Court in Tirana. For all our activity we do not ask for approval from the Macedonian Government or Macedonian politics, because we act here – Sterjovski replied.

He is convinced that Albania and Macedonia should not share the integration paths and adds that the election of a Macedonian president in Albania will be a strong signal for the EU.

– First of all, I think that together the two countries have more chances to move faster toward the European path and I think that with the election of Mr. Kimet Fetahu as President of Albania we will only give a positive signal to the EU that in the Balkans, regardless of ethnic affiliation, every citizen can be elected in his country to all positions – says Sterjovski.

Prof. Dr. Kimet Fetahu was born in 1955 in the village of Trebishte, Golo Brdo district. He is a doctor of science, university professor, and Macedonian social activist in the Republic of Albania. He was active in organizing the Macedonians in the Republic of Albania, especially after the fall of the dictatorial regime in 1990. In 1991 he formed the organization of Macedonians from Albania “Bratstvo”, which in 1993 was renamed “Mir”, whose president he is still. He is also the director of the Center for Ethnic Studies in Tirana.

Kimet Fetahu

Expressing the party’s position, Sterjovski, who is a former member of the Albanian Parliament, points out that Fetahu, as an apolitical candidate and loyal citizen of the Republic of Albania, meets all the criteria set out in the Constitution, as a person with the necessary dignity to be President of the Republic. the Constitution, the rights and freedoms of citizens, the development of democracy, justice for all, the protection of constitutionality and legality, the equality of all before the Constitution, and the rule of law.
