Albania: 2011 census rejected by Macedonian & other minorities

In Tirana the representatives of the Macedonian, Greek, Vlach, Roma and Serbian-Montenegrin minority signed a Declaration against the official results of the 2011 census, and mailed it to all Albanian and international institutions. After the signing they held a joint press conference.

The Declaration states:

“We the representatives of minorities in Albania declare before the Albanian public, national and international institutions that we do not recognize the official census results published in 2011.

We consider them as a crown of all misconducted activities to the detriment of the minorities by the state, political and media representatives.

So as we warned, as the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe has treated the census, the process of the population counting, the collection of data on ethnicity and religious affiliation, was undemocratic process, untransparent and unconstitutional, conducted with innumerable offenses and arbitrary actions, and as it can be seen the data are manipulated.

We assert in categorical way, that the published figures for minorities and religion, does not represent the reality in Albania.”

The Declaration was signed by Vasil Sterjovski for Macedonian minority, Ligoraq Karamelo for the Greek minority, Tanas Poci of the Vlach minority, Pavle Jakoja for the Serbo-Montenegrin minority and Arben Kosturi of the Roma minority. (Makedonium)
