Presidents Ivanov, Prvanov and Topi Urge Young Leaders to Actively Create New Values

“We live in the world where politics, economy, security and communications function quite differently. In this world we need leaders that will know to make decisions.”

This was said Saturday by Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov at the Conference of Young Leaders in Ohrid dedicated to challenges and opportunities for Balkan leadership, which is also attended by Former Presidents of Bulgaria and Albania, Georgi Prvanov and Bamir Topi.

“We when were in the academic community we have positions based on our individual researches, analyses and what we have acquired in the academic community and we were able to present positions and opinion and in accordance with the time to change them. But when you are leader and politician it will depend what decision you make and from this it depends how much others will respect you,” President Ivanov emphasized.

He pointed out the challenges of the young leadership in the future.

“I am glad that many people are uniting to change, to influence processes not to happen that have heavy consequences which would be harmful for all of us. This mainly refers to climate change, economy, politics and security and in every spheres of human life,” President Ivanov said.

He urged young leaders to be creative, to generate innovative ideas, not to succumb to dominant schools which will create out of them only consumers, consumers of ideas and somebody’s else thoughts, but to spend free time to upgrade own personality.

Former Bulgarian President Georgi Prvanov addressing the present guests at the conference said that real leader should be visionary, to make courageous decisions, regardless if one must make non popular decisions sometimes.

“History should be left to historians, not to allow future to be made by looking in the past,” he said.

Prvanov said that in Bulgaria today there is a deficit of ideas, lack of vision, ideas that will offer solutions for longer time period and not for a period when the power is in the hands. He emphasized the need Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania to build and share same vision, same goal and to clearly define our positions when it comes to realization of project Corridor 8, in wider meaning from economic, energy and cultural connection of the people especially the young people from all states in the region.

“Confidence must exist among the presidents, prime ministers leaders at all levels. The communications is necessary among scientists, university centers and communications of young people. In such climate the existing communication of young minds, the future presidents and leaders would be much easier to create brighter future for all people in the region,” Prvanov said.

Former Albanian President Bamir Topi emphasized the need of such meetings not only to share individual experiences from the past but through accumulation of knowledge and experiences to create new values which will mean step forward in creating the future.

Topi sees the future of the Balkans in recognizing and projecting the same goal – full integration of the region in the European institutions and associations.

“What we must do is to create politics of cooperation, intensive communication and by building bridges that will connect us to jointly represent the fight for better future. Each one should personally give its maximum in realization of the idea for building relations of good neighborhood which will result in wider benefits,” Topi said.

Two-day summit resumes Sunday in Ohrid with addresses by renowned professors, ambassadors and businessmen before young leaders. A debate on the contribution of ISLAA to leadership the next decade is also planned. (Makedonium)
